Fading, a framed textile artwork combining free motion embroidery stitched on to a selection of ephemera and papers. This conceptual art explores notions of fading - perhaps memories that are fading, the person is fading or even her youth is fading. Based around ideas of written letters and postcards the exact meaning of the artwork is open to interpretation. The darker grey flocked paper with swirls of blue-greys are combined with paler embroidery creating an interesting texture switching from smooth to raised. The curvilinear lines taking the eye across the different elements of the artwork from the handwritten details to the images and finally to the lady featured in the work.
Fading is for those who enjoy conceptual artwork that is thought provoking. Perfect for almost any space within your home or office, Fading is that ideal finishing touch or as a gift for a range of special occasions including birthdays.
Fading was made in my studio in Saltburn by the Sea, where I specialise in creating one off, unique pieces of textile artwork. It measures approximately 30 x 30 cm and comes presented in a black frame which can be wall hung or displayed on a shelf. The artwork will be expertly packaged to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition, with delivery local to or collection from Saltburn by the Sea available.
Fading is part of the Reflections Collection; further pieces can be seen here.
Reflections is inspired by the connections we have with those who have gone before us; perhaps in certain traits, identity or looks or perhaps through the special things we keep and pass on to others. Fabrics often in the form of clothing, letters, photos and ephemera are all collected and stored to remind us of times past and to help us treasure memories. This work explores why we keep those specific things and the stories it can tell about us.
