Quiet Space, a free standing conceptual textile artwork reminiscent of postcards or letters that explores memories and times gone. Combining layers of paper and ephemera with free motion embroidery, Quiet Space encourages the viewer to reflect on memories and special times; it is inspired by letter writing and postcards. Featuring a sepia photo along with more neutral creamy papers the dark purple embroidery and maroon elements are the focal point.
Quiet Space is ideal for any space in the home or office with the colour palette matching any existing decor. The smaller size makes it ideal as a finishing touch to a room that has recently been decorated or renovated. Designed to be free standing on a mantelpiece or propped on a shelf as one would with postcards or letters, however the work would look equally effective framed and hung on the wall. Quiet Space is for those who enjoy conceptual artwork that intrigues and leads them to ask questions. It would make a perfect first anniversary gift, which is symbolised by paper, as well as for birthdays, retirements and other celebrations.
Quiet Space was made in my studio in Saltburn by the Sea, where I specialise in creating one off, unique pieces of textile artwork. It measures approximately 23 x 15 cm. The artwork will be expertly packaged to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition, with delivery local to or collection from Saltburn by the Sea available.
Quiet Space is part of the Reflections Collection; further pieces can be seen here.
Reflections is inspired by the connections we have with those who have gone before us; perhaps in certain traits, identity or looks or perhaps through the special things we keep and pass on to others. Fabrics often in the form of clothing, letters, photos and ephemera are all collected and stored to remind us of times past and to help us treasure memories. This work explores why we keep those specific things and the stories it can tell about us.
